Thursday, February 12, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dentons’ office (Gustav Mahlerplein 2, 1082 MA) at the 'Amsterdam Zuidas'
Most General Counsel and Chief Legal Officers work entirely, or largely, in the English language and in an international and intercultural setting. For some of the GCN'ers, English is their native language, but for most it is Dutch. Although we have all had some training in ‘Intercultural Differences,’ for GCs/CLOs the correct use of language is extremely important for us because, by the very nature of our role, we use language as an essential tool to build and maintain trust.
- We are delighted that GCN member Damon Dean, General Counsel at Kyocera Document Solutions Europe Management, will lead an engaging and highly practical workshop on this topic. As a native Englishman who has also lived in Japan and now holds Dutch nationality, he has explored this subject in depth over the years. He is happy to explain to GC peers what he means by the use of ‘International English’ for intercultural communication & negotiation for GCs and what the benefits are.
- His co-moderator is Anouk Rosielle, Partner at Dentons, who was born in Curaçao. She runs a highly international Dispute Resolution practice.
- After Damon’s introduction and workshop, we will break out into smaller groups, moderated by Damon and Anouk, to share experiences and tips on this topic.
- We will wrap up with a drink and a brief summary of the breakout sessions.
